Ohio Company Makes Million Dollar Sale To Korea

East-West International Group, located in Moreland Hills, Ohio in the 14th Congressional District, has used Branded Program funds since 1999 for advertising, in-store promotions and demonstrations, shipping samples and exhibiting in international tradeshows. The Branded Program is funded through the Market Access Program and administered by Food Export-Midwest. It provides reimbursement of 50 percent of many international promotional costs to help small companies increase their export of U.S. agricultural products.

In September 2008, East-West International Group attended the Food Export-Midwest-sponsored Korea Culinary Camp for Food Service Products where the company met with foreign buyers and learned about the market and their exporting opportunities. "As a result of a new contact we made through the Korea Culinary Camp, we recently signed a $1 million/year contract to sell tortilla chips to a buyer in Korea. The new sales growth will enable us to add 1-2 additional employees and source more U.S. bulk goods," explained President Dr. Jiunn-Der Wu.

East-West International Group, Inc. (EWIG) specializes in international trade, representing many U.S. products. Their line of products includes snack foods: tortilla chips and popcorn; sauces: pasta, salsa, mustard; dry seasonings; and wines.

Food Export–Midwest and Food Export–Northeast are private, non-profit associations of Midwestern and Northeastern state agricultural promotion agencies that use federal, state, and industry resources to promote the export of Midwestern and Northeastern food and agricultural products. Food Export–Midwest and Food Export–Northeast administer many services through Market Access Program (MAP) funding from the USDA, Foreign Agricultural Service.
